AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination)

AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness system for elementary through post secondary that is designed to increase school wide learning and performance. The AVID College Readiness System (ACRS) accelerates student learning, uses research based methods of effective instruction, provides meaningful and motivational professional development, and acts as a catalyst for systemic reform and change.
Beginning with one high school and 32 students, AVID now serves over 425,000 students in more than 4,800 elementary and secondary schools in 48 states, the District of Columbia and across 16 countries/territories. The AVID College Readiness System spans elementary through post secondary.
The AVID program began during the 2012-2013 school year with 50 students in the 9th grade. Since that time we have expanded to 150 students in grades 9-10. We will continue to add one grade level per year. If you are interested in the AVID program, please contact the AVID coordinator, Jeanne Pitts at jeanne.pitts@dmschools.org.
Stay tuned for updates on this exciting program that is not offered anywhere else in Central Iowa.
